The reports that violence against Obama and his wife are threatened in public are disturbing. If I had not been raised in the South, I would think it unusual and without intent. Tragically for me (and by inference, all others) violence seems not only acceptable but preferable to reason. Acceptance of a reality that shows we are fortunate to have so much diversity around us is a hard commodity to sell.
I worry that something will happen to Obama or McCain and the coup will then be complete. I loved democracy when I believed we had it. I'll continue to fight for it but wish I could avoid some of the tactics of those who seek to take the Constitution with them when they go.
