The short answer is that there are 3900 dead American soldiers plus thousands more wounded because Saddam Hussain was too stupid to take the money and run.
The long answer is...ever hear of Idi Amin? Dictator-for-life of Uganda back in the '70s and part of the '80s. He was one-up on Saddam: Not only did he kill his political enemies afterwards he dined on them for lunch. But when the heat got too much for him he packed a couple of bags of money out of the Ugandan treasury and disappeared, surfacing later in Saudi Arabia where he became a "permanent guest" of the Saudis. About the same time as we were invading Iraq, Amin passes away of natural causes in his bed, surrounded by his family. After he left Uganda more-or-less got its act together and today is one of the brighter spots in all of Africa. Not one American soldier died and the killing in Uganda largely stopped after Amin split.
In 1981 Hussain invaded Iran and wasted 10 years and the blood of tens of thousands of his people in a vainglorious war of aggression that sputtered oiut when he ran out of mney. In 1991 he invaded Kuwait, one of the few Arabic allies the US had in the region, and got his head handed to him by an international coalition led by the US. As a condition of not removing him from power he agreed to a cease fire, most of the terms of which he broke repeatedly over the next 12 years. During those 12 years on average he murdered 100 Iragis *per day* to stay in power.
27 UN resolutions later he was finally physically ousted, tried for crimes against humanity, and hung by the new Iraqi government. He had a choice of this or the "Amin option". He chose...poorly. And his bad choice cost thousands of lives.

Ummmmm..... NO!
That would not explain why the last 50,000+ dead. We're still there for the one true US ideology..., profits. Profits built on the blood of the poor's young. Same as it always is with war. Had what you said been true, we could have gotten out if we shared the reconstruction. This illeagal administration denied the worlds help for profits. The same reason we actually got in this war in the first place. It is not a coincidence that these war criminals are connect with the oil and military industial machine. Wake up...
