NYT Hypes Iran Fears Iran

Talk about depressing. The New York Times cranks up the Fear Wurlitzer for an attack on Iran.

War with Iran is just a crazy, crazy idea. Could anything be more obvious?

The NYT... I couldn't find one other news outlet running this story today. Daja vu.

This whole Iran thing is a mess. You've got Ahmadinejad practically begging us to bomb him. Then 'surprise', they’re looking at P-2 centrifuges. What's up with that? Not many people doubt Iran has nuclear weapon ambitions, but here we are again without proof. Striking Iran would be a horrible mistake sure to set off terrorist attacks all over the place.

At the same time the last thing you want is a terrorist state sitting on long-range nukes. Sanctions, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. If Iran has a secret nuclear weapons program would sanctions even help given all the cash Iran has?

Would it help any if hundreds of retired generals spoke out against Rumsfeld? And in the very unlikely event he resigns, who'd replace him? Would we be better off with someone else given what a tight-knit family this administration is?

It's just a mess.
